Color Day: Prep School Perfection

Happy Wednesday, dolls! We recently noticed the navy and green combination popping up in a number of things in Kate Spade's collections (bracelets, shoes, earrings, etc!) and just fell in love with it. But, admittedly, when we first decided to make a color board with these colors we immediately thought of Blair Waldorf in her bold golden yellow headband and Constance school uniform. We also thought of the University of Notre Dame's Fighting Irish, but the Queen B and her band of minions seemed slightly more in tune with the look we would like this board to inspire.  As some schools have already begun for Fall in the Northeast, it seems like the appropriate time to study a combination of colors that really evoke a scholarly feel.  Here are some ways to incorporate academia in your decor for a preppy look that's sure to earn you an A+ for style!

You Know You Love Me

Happy 100th episode to our favorite guilty pleasure show, Gossip Girl. Tonight's long anticipated episode features the wedding of Blair Waldorf; where our Queen Bee will marry Prince Louis and finally become the princess she's always dreamed about.  But, sneak previews show Blair fleeing with a somewhat panicked look.  Will she go through with it?  We'll have to wait and see.  But, one things for sure, noone does elegant events better than Blair and her wedding is sure to be full of soft and beautiful, super feminine touches.  Here's a few details we found we'd expect to see at a Blair Waldorf Wedding:

Gossip Girl Style, Part 4 of 4: Blair Waldorf

All hail Queen B! We decided to save the best for last to complete our Gossip Girl style look book. Blair's look is classic and sexy, with plenty of ruffles, frills, and bows. She is always dressed to impress, and we admire how she can take conservative collars and Victorian styles look so intriguing. Here are some looks that we think reflect the epitome of Upper East Side royalty, Blair Waldorf.

Blair Waldorf knows how to wear a little black dress. This chic pencil dress from Karen Millen is a knockout with its embellished neckline, jeweled sleeves, and cinched waist. Add an oversized pair of sunglasses, and you're ready to plot, scheme, and bring down anyone who dares to take your throne.

Everyone on Gossip Girl always has the cutest little coats to go with every outfit, and Blair is no exception. This short and classy coat available at Anthropologie has a classy, Victorian look that is just made for royalty, a la Queen B.

But you can't be Queen without your headband of power! Even though Queen B has relinquished her throne, the headband is still a Waldorf staple. This satin, oversized bow by Tasha is a symbol of royalty in the Upper East Side (and in this case, is also the color of royalty!) Just be careful, looking this good you might get you a nairtini in the face.

Plaid skirts aren't just for schoolgirls. This skirt from ModCloth is a chic, grown up version of the Gossip Girl staple, plus it has Blair's signature bow! With a well-fitted v-neck or button down, you are sure to rule the school (or office).

Spotted: B eyeing up this ultra femme lace and pearl bib necklace by AllThingsTinsel.  It's called "I'm the Queen"...how fitting!  This seller also has a great bow necklace and other items that our girl Blair would go Gaga over!

We can't help but envy how polished Blair looks all the time. Even when she's just lounging in her room reading Vogue, she is so put together. This two-piece dress by BCBG is exactly what we are talking about -- very sophisticated, classy, and sexy, just like our Queen B.

And of course Manhattan socialite would not be complete without the perfect pair of preppy pumps by Gabriella Rocha.  Strap these babies on and you're set to stomp on the dreams of young Manhattan socialites everywhere.

Gossip Girl Style, Part 3 of 4: Jenny Humphrey

We've watched Little J grow from being an awkward teenager to an angsty fashionista. She's not afraid of eyeliner, and there is never such thing as too much black. Here are a few ideas to help you channel your Jenny Humphrey alter ego:

No more Humphrey plaid shirts for Jenny, she is all about style. This drop waist dress from Top Shop is edgy enough to satisfy your inner bad girl, but still feminine enough to get the boys' heads turning. Add leggings, a chunky chain necklace, headband, a ton of black eyeliner, and voila! Jenny Humphrey is cloned.

Speaking of black eyeliner, if you want to perfect Jenny's smokey eye look, check out the Too Faced smokey eye palette, available at Sephora. With step-by-step instructions and 6 different shades to use, you will be rocker chic in no time.

For a dressier occasion like a holiday or party you could check out this dress available at Forever21.  This dress speaks loads to Jenny's more mature and high fashion style - while the tiers give it a soft look, the grommets give it that edgy look that is all Little J.

Of course, now that Jenny is Queen, she has to have her own headband! This unique piece by Etsy seller blingjewelry is dark and dramatic, just like Little J. We love the large satin flower and the delicate beading, plus it will definitely stand out in her bleached blonde hair!

Jenny Humphrey knows that a simple white tee goes a long way. This loose, cuffed tee by Brooklyn Industries is a shout out to Jenny's past, and is both comfortable and edgy.  Add tights and heeled booties, and like Jenny, you have an effortlessly sexy and hip look.

We know, we know -- tights are not pants! But leggings are all the rage, and American Apparel offers pretty much every color and style you can think of. These lace leggings are sure to get you on the top of the Met steps.

Every riot girl needs a leather jacket (or faux leather jacket in this case). This reasonably priced bomber jacket from Urban Outfitters is definitely a Jenny Humphrey staple, to be draped over school uniforms, vintage tees, and even haute couture.

While Jessica Simpson and Jenny Humphrey may seem like an odd pair, two blondes can make a right! We like this eclectic piece created by the pop-star-turned-designer. The bright jewels laid out on the black velvet creates a nice contrast with the heavy metal chains. And if you're looking for some more color, it's available in kelly green and royal blue as well!

Gossip Girl Style, Part 2 of 4: Vanessa Abrams

Vanessa Abrams started out as Dan's home-school, outsider friend, but has quickly risen to the ranks of the NYU elite. Her wild hair and beautiful blue eyes have made her a favorite among the men on the Upper East Side, but it's her fashion choices that make her such a vivid character. She is not afraid of taking fashion risks, opting for bold colors, interesting patterns, and, of course, lots of jewelry! Here are some looks that we could see the burgeoning filmmaker sporting:

Vanessa is not afraid of wearing colors, so this bold red dress by Urban Outfitters seems like a perfect fit for her. Plus it's made up of vintage, surplus, and deadstock material, which makes it eco-friendly and one-of-a-kind, just like Vanessa.

This dress, available at Nordstrom, is a little less structured than the first, but still equally as suitable for Vanessa.  V would love this fun, pretty dress that features some of her signature colors!  We can just picture her sporting this look with a baggy sweater, slouchy boots, and a large colored hobo bag!

This leafy tiered necklace exemplifies Vanessa's unique style and daring choice of accessories.  Available at Anthropologie, you can mimic Vanessa's bohemian look by pairing this with a flowy dress or a casual v-neck tee -- and Dan Humphrey will be all yours.

V not only loves bright colors, but also can't get enough of prints!  With the perfect combination of both, we can totally picture our Bohemian Brooklyn gal in this tank from Express.

Like we said before, Vanessa loves her accessories!  While maybe she never made it as far as to sit on The Met steps, we're sure she's ventured inside more than a few times to admire the art.  We wouldn't be surprised if she'd stop in the gift shop on the way out to pick up this bright and colorful Egyptian inspired piece.

Vanessa is definitely a thrifty shopper, and while she tends to value original, eco-friendly pieces, she is not one to shy away from a bargain. That is why this artsy sequin tunic from Forever 21 is a perfect choice for her. It's fun, vibrant, and costs less than $25!

But V knows when to take a step back and opt for some neutrals. Perfect for mild weather, this loose, belted cardigan from Anthropologie reflects Vanessa's go-with-the-flow attitude. The artistic pattern and earth tone bring out the softer side of the daring Brooklyn the native, while still maintaining her unique sense of style.

And wearing neutrals makes it even easier to choose your statement pieces, such as this gorgeous pair of earrings from Neiman Marcus.  Though we're not likely to see V shopping at that store, we think she'd really make an exception for these Egyptian inspired, turquoise earrings by Milly.  We think, with their Bohemian look and funky pattern, they would be a fantastic addition to Vanessa's seemingly never ending jewelry box.

Happy shopping!

Gossip Girl Style, Part 1 of 4: Serena van der Woodsen

Tonight is Gossip Girl night on The CW and we are huge fans of "the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite".  Therefore, for the next few Mondays, you can look forward to our Gossip Girl character inspirations featuring 4 of the most prominent ladies of Manhattan (and Brooklyn!).  To start off our GG series, we've gone with everyone's favorite reformed party girl, Serena van der Woodsen.

Serena, unlike Blair, is more of a free spirit and her wardrobe reflects that.  She has a nice mix of classy pieces, flirty girly outfits, casual bohemian style, and rocker-chick apparel and accessories, and she combines them for a look that is unique and carefree, and always super sexy. Here are a few items we think would suit our socialite perfectly:

If you want to channel you inner Serena try on this halter dress from Free People. Like Serena, it's sexy and intriguing with just a touch of bohemian. All you need is a pair of heeled booties and tousled hair, and Nate Archibald is all yours.

Boots are a staple of the Serena van der Woodsen wardrobe and she has many different colors and styles.  This boot by Steve Madden is definitely one we can picture S strutting in -- it's casual enough for some skinny jeans, but if you want to be like S you'll wear these with a way-too-short-to-not-be-wearing-leggings dress.

You'll also need to make sure your style is a perfect balance of boho-chic meets rocker chick.  Serena often expresses her edgy side in her choice of jewelry and we think this necklace from Express is the best of both worlds with its bohemian layered look and the rocker studs!

Who can pull off a vest better than Serena?  S loves layers, and this studded vest is definitely something she would throw over a loose tank or a tight mini dress, to give it some extra flair. Added bonus: it's from Forever 21, so you can be stylish without breaking the bank.

A chic summer outfit that shows lots of skin? This sexy romper is definitely a staple for our party girl Serena. Available at Urban Outfitters, you can just picture Serena strutting down the streets in sky high heels, with gold bangles, and of course, her signature blonde hair.

Or for a formal occasion, like an Ambassador's dinner or wedding, you might want to try this floor length tiered black dress by Calvin Klein.  Typically S opts for dresses that just barely cover her, but we went with this dress because we think it is very elegant, simple, and effortlessly sexy, just like Serena.
