Embracing Model Diversity: The Latest Campaign from TK Maxx
TK Maxx have become the latest high street brand to embrace all things diverse, by including the world's oldest supermodel, Daphne Selfe and Felicity Hayward, the UK's hottest new plus size model, in their latest campaign video.
I like the TK Maxx ads: they're so fun and upbeat and cool (can I get away with saying 'cool'?). They're definitely the kind of ads you wish you could transport yourself into, anyway!
I'm loving all of the vintage styling and the oversized statement necklaces. And some of those chunky wool coats are enough to have me running to my closest branch of TK Maxx as fast as I can, looking to do some new season shopping!
TK Maxx did a quick Q&A with plus sized model Felicity Hayward at the shoot for their latest campaign (images definitely to follow: they look as great as the TV ad!) and I've popped a little snippet below:
TK Maxx: Can you describe your personal style?
Felicity Hayward: A modern day Jayne Mansfield, whose wardrobe got mixed up with the costume department of a John Waters movie.
TK: What is your favourite trend from TK Maxx’s AW13 collection?
FH: I would say winter pastels as I am a big fan of those colours, I could be a little biased on the grounds that I want to be an ice-cream lady when I am older and the colours in this trends remind me of all the flavours from mint choc chip to tutti frutti.
TK: Do you have any fashion pieces in your wardrobe that have an amazing story behind them, or that you could never bear to part with?
FH: I have a thong which once belonged to Prince and was worn by one of his dancers at the VH1 Fashion Music Awards in 1994. That baby isn’t going anywhere.
She's plus sized, she's gorgeous and sexy, and she loves Prince! Could this woman be my new fashion crush? I think so!

Designer Versus Highstreet: When to spend and when to save
Like most people, I love a little bit of luxury, and I can't resist treating myself to designer things every now and again. But I'm also a high street addict and I love getting a bargain. I've tried to give up shopping in Primark so many times, but I always get lured back "just to have a look" and I always end up picking up something: their on trend styles and low-low prices are just too tempting!
As someone, therefore, who mixes designer and high street pieces in almost every outfit I wear (though my wardrobe contains significantly more high street items!) I thought it would be a good post to share my opinions on what you should buy designer, and what items you should save your money on and get from the high street. Unless you're a millionaire of course, in which case you can hang the expense and get everything designer! But this is for the average gal like me, with a relatively small amount to spend on fashion each month:
Accessories
When it comes to most accessories, I subscribe to the philosophy that designer is best. I think people notice if you're wearing a statement watch from a good brand or if your sunglasses are designer or high street. And because trends for these items change very little, they're worth investing money in. It's also worth noting they're usually much cheaper than designer dresses or handbags!
On the other hand, I like to update my wardrobe with my accessories (that's what comes of being addicted to classic black outfits) which means there are also pieces I like to get from the high street: I would love to be able to afford necklaces from Mawi, for example, but for oversized statement necklaces I don't think you can get better than Topshop - especially because fashion jewellery trends change so often.
I just can't seem to stop myself buying designer accessories - it's an obsession!
Clothes
As a general rule I shop highstreet when I'm buying clothes. We are so lucky in the UK, because our high street is the best in the world both in terms of style, and in terms of quality and fashion forward-ness. Of course, I would love to spend £1000 on that Matthew Williamson dress. But when Monsoon do a very passable equivalent for a tenth of the price (and you'll only wear the frock twice anyway!) it really does make sense to save your money.
I do caveat that though with this notable exception:
Coats
My black trench coat is Stella McCartney (I got it from a sample sale) and I really do think you can tell the difference in it's quality from my old Topshop black trench coat. Designer coats tend to be heavier, a little thicker, more well crafted. If you like to have lots of coats in lots of styles and colours (like me!) then the high street is going to be your best friend. If you choose just one winter coat that you like, and wear it winter after winter, then look for a designer coat you can really fall in love with.
Handbags and shoes
A lot of people will say that when it comes to handbags and shoes, designer is best. But what I think they really mean is that quality is best. Whether I'm buying from the highstreet or spending designer money, I always like my shoes and bags to be leather. It lasts longer, and looks better: it doesn't have that plastic sheen that pleather tends to have.
I think a splurge is definitely worthwhile on one classic designer handbag: especially if there's one you've had your eyes on for a while. Saving your pennies to buy your dream bag is definitely behaviour I approve of!
PS - Don't believe people when they say that designer heels are worth the money because they're more comfortable: As the owner of several pairs (Dior, D&G, Moschino) I can tell you that it's a myth!
A mix of high street and designer, but every pair is leather!
So in summary I guess what I'm saying is spend on the classics: your watch, sunglasses, everyday handbag and coat. But save on trendy tops, perpex necklaces and anything in neon: you won't wear it often enough for it to be worth spending too much money!
Of course, don't forget that buying designer doesn't have to cost the earth! Here are some of my favourite websites that I scour through at least weekly to find designer treasure at discount prices:
www.tkmaxx.com (They have regular designer flashsales, but you now have to sign up to shop)
www.theoutnet.com
www.brandalley.co.uk (You have to be a member to shop their designer sales)
What do you think of my suggestions? What items do you like to buy designer, and what do you think you can get just as easily from the high street?

Lusting after designer sunglasses at bargain prices!
I'm a bit of a sunglasses addict, but I'm also a clumsy oaf: I manage to lose, sit on, or otherwise break at least one pair of sunglasses every season. So getting designer shades for less than £20 is like the holy grail for me! It means I get to wear the sunglasses I love all summer long, but I'm not too heartbroken when their sell by date inevitably arrives.
Enter TK Maxx: home of the designer discount, and my favourite place to find sunglasses! They've just had a new drop of shades arrive on their website, and there is a great selection available. Whether you want aviators, vintage-style frames, coloured sunglasses, or wrap around shades, there's something for everyone:
Row 2 left to right: Missoni oversized frames, £24.99. Jil Sander oval sunglasses, £29.99. Christian Dior red metal sunglasses, £69.99.
Row 3 left to right: Nicole Fahri purple sunglasses, £19.99. Hugo boss tortoiseshell frames, £59.99. Calvin Klein white sunglasses, £19.99.
Row 4 left to right: Mugler brown sunglasses, £19.99. Guess wraparound sunglasses, £24.99. John Richmond aviators, £16.99
I scoured through all of the designer sunglasses available twice before finally settling on ordering the oversized Missoni ones. I love the slight cats eye shape and the tortoiseshell colour. I really like brown or tortoiseshell frames, especially if you're fair skinned and fair haired. They blend in and are softer against your face, unlike black frames with can look too harsh and really dominate your face.
I'm also a huge fan of an oversized frame. Much like the theory that if you carry an oversized handbag against your hip it will make your body look smaller, I think that if you wear an oversized pair of sunglasses it will make your face look smaller: perfect if you have a big old moon face like me!
I want to end this by saying that this isn't a sponsored post: I just really love sunglasses, and as soon as I saw all these bargains in my TK Maxx newsletter today, I knew I had to share!
Do you buy new sunglasses every season? Or do you manage to not break the ones you have? (If so, tell me how you keep them in one piece! I'm useless!) And do you have your new sunglasses yet?

SS13: The best campaign images so far from TK Maxx
I think it's fair to say that I am a TK Maxx addict: It's the home of finding amazing designer bargains for me, and the source of the best designer pieces in my wardrobe. It's mantra is the store with a mantra closest to mine: the best quality at the most affordable prices!
There are certain items (luggage, designer sunglasses) where, when they need replacing, I won't look anywhere else: I know I won't get better than I will find in TKMaxx!
My current obsession with interiors (not long now until the big move!) means I'm also slightly obsessed with all that vintage wallpaper. If only they sold that in store too, I'd never need to shop anywhere else!
The pieces on my immediate hit list are the royal blue and grey silk patterned pussy bow blouse, the mustard weave handbag, the zebra print ponyskin courts ......and the blonde model's gorgeous hair colour please!
I have to limit myself to monthly visits to TKMaxx because I know I will always find something I want instore, and if I went in more often, I would probably bankrupt myself! Do you shop in TKMaxx? And what is the best TKMaxx bargain you've ever had?
Never been to TKMaxx before and want to try bagging a TKMaxx bargain of your own? Then check out my guide to bargain shopping in TKMaxx.

Christmas gift ideas from TK Maxx
I've just made my annual Christmas trip to TK Maxx, and I just had to share what bargainous bargains I picked up whilst I was there! I always make a trip to TK Maxx at Christmas, because they have a great gift range. It's also the perfect place to pick up little designer bits (perfect for Christmas stockings) at massively reduced prices. If you think I might be buying you a gift this Christmas, it's probably best you turn away now! For everyone else, here's what I picked up:
Edible gifts
Is there anything nicer than being gifted something yummy? Maybe that's just a sign that I'm greedy, but I do love an edible gift: and they're perfect for secret santas, aunts and uncles, and even the next door neighbour! This selection that I picked up ranged in price from £3.99 for the Christmas tree tin full of chocolates to £12.99 for the ceramic biscuit jar filled with ginger bread men! The best thing about these ones from TK Maxx is that the tins are so lovely, they can be saved and used again!
Stocking filler socks
Call me predictable (I am!) but every man in my life gets socks in their stocking at Christmas. I think they're a great, useful stocking stuffer! TK Maxx have some really great boxes of socks instore at the moment, from brands such as Calvin Klein, Original Penguin, French Connection, Ted Baker etc and all the ones I saw were £9.99 per box: considerably less than RRP!!
The ubiquitous Christmas jumpers
Another predictable one I'm afraid, but jumpers do make great gifts! As always, TK Maxx have a great selection of great labels instore, but at high street (and sometimes less than high street) prices. I managed to pick up 2 lovely knitted jumpers, one from Original Penguin and one from Superdry. Both were £24.99 each.
Make up, perfume, and smellies
I didn't actually buy any (I just didn't need them) but I was massively impressed by the range of make up, smellies, and perfume in store. There were Nails Inc gift sets for £12.99, and Calvin Klein make up sets for £9.99. There were also lovely boxed and hampered bath sets, perfumes, and an unlimited range of make up bags and wash bags: it was like girly gift heaven!!
Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? And have you had any bargains from TK Maxx lately? I'm delighted that I managed to combine both: and proud of myself for spending over an hour in my local store looking at pretty things without actually buying a single thing for myself! Here's hoping that means extra brownie points from Santa....

The Fabfrocks guide to: Bagging a bargain in TK Maxx
I'm a big fan of TK Maxx, they are one of the stores on the high street that I pop into quite regularly and like my other obsessions (I'm thinking of car boot sales, Bicester village, and charity shops) the thrill is in never knowing what you might find. This weekend I popped into my mum's local store, whilst I was over visiting, and was truly delighted by the bargain I found lurking under one of the Christmas gift tables, where I was busy rummaging looking for a new make up bag:
The rrp on this gorgeous Missoni scarf was £197.47. I picked it up for £39.99. Hidden away, and it was the only one in the shop: I'm going to call that fate!
So how do you find that elusive designer bargain that you've been waiting for all your life (exaggerate? me?) Well here are my top tips for bagging a bargain in TK Maxx:
-If you've found something you love but can't find it in your size, look through all the rails. Much like Primark, TKmaxx can sometimes look like a jumble sale, because people pick things up then put them back in the wrong places when they change their mind. If you really love something persevere and you might just find the size 12 dress you were looking for hanging out with the size 6 dresses instead.
- Don't forget to look in the gifts section: especially at this time of year! That's where I found this scarf. There was also a great range of leather goods (including several Osprey purses I lusted after) that would have made a great present...to myself! Just because it's in the gift section doesn't mean you have to buy it as a gift!
- If it's big named designers you want, look for the rails marked 'Gold Label': that's where you will find all the bigger branded goodies.
- Remember that TKMaxx isn't just for fashion. I'm a sucker for their homeware department, where the discounts are (if possible) even more insane than on the clothing.
- Don't have the energy or the inclination for rummaging through the rails? The TKMaxx website has improved dramatically over the past couple of years and there are plenty of bargains to be had: I got the unborn 2 Stella McCartney tops from the website this week! For me though, the instore rummage is half of the fun!
The best thing about shopping in TKMaxx is the buzz you get for the rest of the day, after finding that bargain! Do you shop in TKMaxx? Do you have any clever tips to add that you think make your TKMaxx shopping trips more successful?

What's new in TK Maxx this Autumn/Winter?
Last week I was invited along to TK Maxx's bloggers dinner, where they showcased all the trends and key pieces we'll all be able to find instore for Autumn/Winter this year.
You guys know I have a lot of love for TK Maxx. My inner bargain hunter just can't resist a rummage through their rails, and the Gold Label section is like a designer treasure trove! But I think a lot of people are mistaken and think that TK Maxx is nothing but last season's designer clobber: Actually, they also have a mountain of on-trend new season fashions, and their buyers always cherry pick the best pieces available. Yup. I'm not afraid to admit that I love TK Maxx! Which is why it really wasn't hard to pick out my favourite pieces from their Autumn/Winter collections:
Blue coat with fur collar and cuffs, £69.99. RRP £195
Green tweed coat with fur collar and cuffs, £99. RRP £450.
Glitter heels, £19.99
Tan and leopard print bag, £69.99
Sequin jacket with bow tie, £49.99. RRP £149.99
Sunglasses, £49.99
The key trends TK Maxx are championing for this season are: Folklore, English Heritage, Pastels, Modernist, Bourgeois, Empress, and Military. It's the heritage-style tweed coats that I'm most in love with: my coat obsession is well-documented. And there is a checked Moschino coat on their website that I have my eyes firmly planted on! Looking at all of the gorgeous TK Maxx campaign images (full of wonderful coats) only makes me wish that I could wrap up warm and see my breath when I walk through crisp fresh snow. Bring on the cold and frosty mornings:
By the way - Have you seen the new TK Maxx advert on TV yet? I love it, I think it's great! Apparently TKMaxx didn't cast models for the ad; everyone that appears is a 'real person'. And the super-cool woman in the green coat and turban? (AKA the woman I want to be when I reach my dotage) is 76 years old!
What do you think of TK Maxx? Is it a place you shop? And have you picked up any amazing bargains instore recently?

Daily wear: The striped dress and the anniversary
I don't usually wear stripes. The ever-present Spring/summer nautical trend is of course on my radar, but not in my wardrobe. This is one of very few nautical dresses I own: a recent acquisition. I love it and it was perfect for my anniversary day out yesterday: we went boating on the Norfolk Broads.
I seem to have acquired the sunglasses almost by accident. I was clearing out my desk on Friday afternoon when I found an unopened ASOS bag, buried under a mountain of press releases, catelogues and ahem, crisp packets. Obviously I opened it, and these sunglasses were inside: I must've ordered them last summer, never opened them, and forgotten all about it. I don't even remember doing it!
Dress: Blooming Marvellous, Leggings: Mamalicious, Sunglasses: ASOS, Glitter pumps c/o Sarenza, Handbag: BCBG MaxAzria from TKMaxx.
Can you believe its been 12 months since I was boring you all silly talking about our wedding?! The time really does seem to have flown by.
If you feel the need to get back to nature and want a fun and relaxing day out, I can really recommend taking a boat out on the Norfolk Broads. We hired ours from Wroxham, and took a picnic: heavenly! The best part of the day wasn't the beautiful surroundings or the swans and ducklings (which I loved). It was seeing this:
What did you get up to this weekend? Did you do any unexpectedly fun activities?

Give up Clothes for Good!
Earlier in the month I was invited to a private dinner hosted by TKMaxx for a sneak peek of their latest charity campaign: Give up Clothes for Good! The campaign is being run in conjunction with Cancer Research UK, and will support and help fund research on kids cancers.
The basic premise of the campaign is pretty simple. You take a bag of clothes to your local TKMaxx store next time you pop in for a shop of bargain hunting. They give the bag to Cancer Research UK, who sell it in their charity shop. Each donated bag could raise up to £30 towards vital cancer research. Easy peasy!
Check out the video below to see what I (and all the other bloggers at the dinner) donated to the campaign, and our key picks from TKMaxx's new Spring/Summer collections:
It really is a great cause, so why not combine having a good old Spring clean of your wardrobe (something I recommend every year!) with filling a bag of clothes to take to your local TKMaxx for donation, and supporting their campaign?
Because, let's face it, it feels good to do something good! And any excuse to pop to TKMaxx to 'replace' all that stuff you just gave away, right?!

One Mango Tree: Fashion so sustainable, you know exactly who made it!
It must be cotton bag season, because this is my second post about a gorgeous new range of cotton bags this week! This time they're bags from One Mango Tree who give African women economic empowerment, whilst creating gorgeous enviromentally friendly fair trade bags everyone is going to want to own at the same time.
All of the individual (female) artisans who made the bags receive recognition for their work. Each bag comes with a tag that tells you the name of the woman that made your bag. You're then able to visit the One Mango Tree website and see pictures of that woman and her family, and read her story.
My tag led me to Aber Grace, a mum of seven who is the sole supporter of her family. She lived in Bobi IDP camp for displaced persons for five years, but was able to leave in 2008 and move to Gulu after receiving tailor training from One Mango Tree. She started working full-time at the One Mango Tree workshop in July 2009. Although she has little time in between childcare and sewing beautiful accessories for One Mango Tree, Aber Grace likes to grow vegetables and dreams of owning her own land so that she can have a large garden.
TKMaxx have joined forces with One Mango Tree, and you can now buy your very own bag (and support a woman whose story you can't help but feel emotionally tied to) in 28 stores nationwide. The bags are £7.99. TKMaxx are also stocking a selection of purses (for £3.99) and aprons (for £5.99) also all made by the One Mango Tree women.
What better way to get involved in this season's red-hot tribal trend, and do something for the greater good at the same time!

The TKMaxx website is a new discovery for me (Behind the times as always) and I'm going to admit that on a cold indoorsy day last week I may have gone a little crazy and done some shopping:

TKMaxx Bridal: If only they'd invented it sooner!
Do you ever see something awesome, but way after you needed it? Like the perfect swimming costume two days after you get back from your summer holiday. Or the perfect present for your mum three weeks after her birthday. Well that's how I felt when I saw the new wedding boutique launched by TKMaxx.
TKMaxx have added a wedding shop to their site, selling everything you'd need (fashion-wise) to have the perfect wedding. Think gorgeous wedding dresses, with prices starting from £39.99, bridal shoes, Mother of the Bride outfits, and bridesmaid's dresses. Believe me, when I was looking for my bridesmaid's dresses, this would have saved my life. Who says getting married has to break the bank, right?
To prove it I created outfits for the bride, the bridesmaid, and the mother of the bride, all from TKMaxx, with each outfit costing less than £100!!
I love the short lace-embellished wedding dress (which would be perfect if you were looking for an evening wedding dress you can dance in). I also really like the gold bridesmaid dress, which is so versatile and could be worn over and over for so many events.
If you've got a wedding coming up this year then why not check it out? We're attending two this summer, so I plan on popping down and seeing if they have as great a range of guest-wear too....

The Fabfrocks guide to stocking fillers....
Hi guys,
As you already know, I'm a committed bargain hunter: I love the thrill of finding something special at a discounted price. That's why my favourite place to shop is Bicester Village, I'm addicted to car boot sales...and I just can't resist all of the Christmas stocking fillers from TKMaxx.
So I couldn't resist when, a couple of weeks ago (sadly, after I had bought most of my stocking fillers) TKMaxx invited me to their Charing Cross store to check out their selection and pick out some of my favourites to share with you guys. I already loved TKMaxx, and having seen the gifting section, I was more than impressed with the variety, quality, and the massive discounts!
Stocking fillers don't have to be just chocolate coins from M&S and socks with snowmen on from Gap. For the same money, you can get gorgeous presents your recipients will really love. With that in mind, here are my picks of presents that will cover nearly everyone on your list. And the best thing? They all cost under £20:
Stocking fillers for her
Cake making set, £12.99 (RRP £17.99)
Cookie tin filled with cookies, £4.99
Slippers, £7.00
Fondue set, £8.99 (RRP £16.99)
Make up set, £12.99 (RRP £44)
Leather gloves, £14.99 (RRP £35)
Boot liner socks, £5.99
Leather boots, £19.99
Stocking fillers for him
Ipod speakers, £12.99
Ipad stand, £14.99
Ipod speakers, £12.99
Leather wallet, £14.99
I was so impressed with the present selection that, after first going home to think about it, I popped back and picked up the biscuit tin (full of chocolate chip cookies) for my mum, and the ipod speaker dock for Mike!
I've already finished all of my Christmas shopping: in fact, I'm so organised I wrapped my last present this morning (smug much?)
The Christmas budget was pretty tight this year, but with some careful shopping, clever bargain hunting, and spreading the cost, I managed to get what I wanted for everyone. I think that's the key to Christmas shopping this year: most people are still buying as many presents as before, but they're being much more careful about what they're spending on them and where they're buying them from.
Have you finished your Christmas shopping yet? And worse still, have you started the dreaded wrapping?!

Daily wear: Wrapping up for winter
I am currently in the middle of a horrible flu (hence my slightly zombie-like face) so decided that wrapping up warm in lots of faux fur was the only solution. I love the layering possibilities you get with winter dresssing, and took full advantage today by teaming a cardigan with my leather jacket, then throwing my new jewel collared gilet on top:
Whenever i'm ill I very lazily just throw on jeans and a top: the effort of putting tights on is all too much! These jeans are from Topshop, the top is Primark. The bag (which is covered in gold studs underneath) is Friis & Co, and the gilet with the awesome jewel collar is Cynthia Rowley: both from TKMaxx. The leather jacket underneath is my trusty River Island one.
The Jonak brown ankle boots are my new favourite boots in the world, c/o Sarenza. I love the gold detailing at the toe, and they have a low heel meaning they look smart, but aren't too high that I couldn't wear them all day: perfect!
I love this super cozy outfit: perfect for casual chilly days. We're going to Berlin for four days on Friday: I think this outfit will definitely be making the cut to come with me!
