Object love of the day: Gold DKNY watch

Hi guys,
Since I got it at Christmas, my Marc Jacobs watch has been my most prized possession. I wear it every day and it goes with everything: and it's turned me into something of a gold watch magpie. I notice other people wearing gold watches on the tube. I lust after them in magazine spreads. I'm officially obsessed! So when WatchCo.com asked if I wanted to review a watch from their website, how could I resist?

I had a hard time choosing because there were a couple of Fossil watches I really loved, but in the end I chose this DKNY watch complete with chronograph, pearl dial, and diamante around the watch face. I chose it because it's more of a dressy/evening watch that my Marc Jacobs one, and now I have a watch for every occasion!

Like all watches I had to have a couple of links taken out of it, but i'm in love with it already. It's reassuringly heavy, it is thick and chunky (which has the added benefit of making my wrist look tiny) and it's a great outfit focal point. I've been wearing it since it arrived. In fact, I've only taken it off because unless you're a contortionist it's almost impossible to take a photo of your own wrist! As an aside, it was really well packaged, and it also arrived (from the USA) in less than five days: I definitely wasn't expecting that!

What's your most prized possession? Do you have a watch you love, or something else you wear every day and couldn't live without?

Love Tor x

Watch this space

I have a slight obsession with watches. I don't wear them myself, but I love buying them for other people. I love the leather strap and the reassuringly heavy metal face. I love how they look and feel and sound, and I think they make great gifts. I've bought my dad a beautiful Katherine Hamnett watch for Christmas with an oyster coloured face.

I also think watches are a great way to introduce colour into your look, especially if you're a chap like my beloved, who lives and dies in black t shirts and stripey jumpers, or a girl who has to wear a dreaded black suit everyday!

In my limited experience of watch wearers, there are 2 different types: those who view their watch as a hefty investment and wear it everyday, and those of see their watch as another accessory and change it as often as they change their mood. Here are my "ones to watch" for each category (I wonder if I can cram any more watch jokes in here!):

There is a thirteen year old girl inside me that thinks the cupcake watch is super-awesome! I also think the Marc Jacobs skull pendant watch is a nice time keeping alternative for anyone, like me, that finds wearing a watch an annoyance.

For ease of montage creation, and because they stock a suprisingly good selection, all watches shown are available from asos.com.

Now i'm thinking about everyone I can potentially gift watches to this Christmas!

How do we feel about Toywatch?

...I ask because, as I never wear a watch myself, I don't know! On the one hand, I enjoy the vibrancy of the colours and the chunkiness of them and on the other hand...well....they look a tiny bit tacky don't they? I guess that's the point!
I'm not a fan of the chunky metal and sporty ranges, but I must admit to having a secret weakness for the plasteramic range: Chic ceramic looking plastic watches. The way I see it, if you're going for the oversized neon tack factor, you might as well go all out for it! And Michelle Obama agrees with me it seems: she rocked the oversized lilac version on a recent holiday in France.
If I was going to get involved, it would be with this bright canary yellow jelly watch. It's an unmissable wrist adornment of sunglasses-required brightness; what's not to love? But of course, no matter how cool it is, I wouldn't wear this watch: despite my constant bangle wearing, I find having a watch strapped to my wrist very distracting and irritating!
.
So why all this talk about watches from someone who doesn't even wear a watch I hear you ask? Because maker of above mentioned neon watches Toywatch is set to launch its first ever flagship store on London’s Regent St.
.
Coinciding the opening with London Fashion Week, ToyWatch is also collaborating with LFW to produce an anniversary Limited Edition style celebrating 25 years of London Fashion Week. Apparently "details of the style are firmly under lock and key, but soon to be released…"

The fashionista version of the fluoro watch is coming. You have been warned.

Dear Santa....

....I saw the red version of this watch on dressed and pressed's blog this morning and realised I had to have it. I usually avoid wearing my watch because I like to wear bracelets and it interfers. But this watch is a beautiful bracelet as well! And its by Betsey Johnson and we all know how I feel about her....

And look at the cutesy presentation case?!
The only question now is whether I get it in black, blue, or red. That, dearest santa, is up to you!

I've been a very good girl and eaten all of my greens, and this week i found out i'd passed my beloved MA with flying colours, so I think I deserve to be on the nice list and not the naughty one like last year.
And of course there'll be mince pies, and I won't forget the carrot for rudolph!

Lots of love and kisses,

Tor

PS - Santa, in case your elves don't make watches in the workshop, you can buy them here. And if you're feeling especially generous, I also like the fringed T bar sandals!
